How to apply for a Vietnam eVisa: step by step
Short answer: Apply online at evisa.gov.vn from outside Vietnam. Fill in the form and upload a portrait photo and your passport data page, then pay the government fee (USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple entry). The government standard is up to 3 working days. Then look up your result with your registration code and print the eVisa.
vnpriority.com is a private travel service, not a government body. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn (second government address: thithucdientu.gov.vn). Form details below are based on the government form as seen on 16 Sep 2026 and may change. Last checked: 22 Oct 2026
1. Before you start: checklist
- You are outside Vietnam, with a valid passport
- Passport valid at least 1 month after you leave Vietnam (many airlines want 6 months)
- Portrait photo: recent, 4x6 cm, JPEG, face straight, no hat, no glasses, white background
- Clear image of your passport data page, with both code lines (MRZ) at the bottom visible
- An email address you can access (you need it to look up your result)
- Your entry and exit airport or border gate (83 accepted ports)
- Hotel or other address in Vietnam
- A card to pay the government fee
Photo file size: government sources disagree (2 MB on the National Public Service Portal; under 50 KB for the portrait and under 200 KB for the passport image on the eVisa guide page). To be safe, keep files under 50 KB and 200 KB.

3. The form fields that cause the most trouble
| Field | What to enter | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Surname / Given name | Exactly as in the MRZ line of your passport | Swapping surname and given name, adding middle names that aren't in the passport (name guide) |
| Date of birth | DD/MM/YYYY | Using the US MM/DD format |
| Current nationality | The passport you hold. On the eVisa form, select the option shown as "China (Taiwan)" for a Taiwan passport. | Choosing the place you live in |
| Religion | Free text, required | Leaving it blank |
| An address you can open | A typo, which stops you checking your status | |
| Used other passports to enter Vietnam? | Yes if you visited on an old passport | Answering No |
| Type of visa | Single or multiple entry | Choosing single when you will leave and come back (single vs multiple) |
| Valid from / to | DD/MM/YYYY, up to 90 days | Dates that don't cover your whole stay |
| Intended date of entry | A date inside the visa validity | A date outside it |
| Entry / exit checkpoint | A port from the eVisa list | A port not on the list (different port?) |
| Purpose of entry | Your real purpose, for example tourism | Choosing tourism while planning to work |
| Children under 14 | Add children who are on your passport | Children with their own passport need their own eVisa |
4. The government fee
| Item | Amount | Refundable? |
|---|---|---|
| Government fee, single entry | USD 25 | No, not refunded if refused |
| Government fee, multiple entry | USD 50 | No, not refunded if refused |

5. Why applications get refused
The government does not publish a list of top refusal reasons. It does say that missing, wrong or unclear information means the application is not accepted. Check your name against the MRZ, your photo (straight, no glasses) and your dates before you pay. Before paying, you can review and change your form. → eVisa refused: what to do · Fixing mistakes
FAQ
How long does the Vietnam eVisa take?
The government standard is no more than 3 working days after your full information and fee are received. Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays don't count. Vietnam's Embassy in Australia says applicants normally get the eVisa at the end of the 4th working day if no change is requested.
Can I get a visa on arrival instead?
Vietnam does not offer a walk-up visa on arrival for tourists. Arrival visas at the airport require a pre-issued approval letter from Vietnam Immigration, arranged through a sponsor in Vietnam. For most travelers, the eVisa is the simpler option.
Can the embassy help with my eVisa application?
No. Vietnam's Embassy in Australia says embassies cannot help with eVisa applications. For questions, use evisa.gov.vn/support or email [email protected].
Can I fix a mistake after I pay?
Immigration may ask you to update the application. Vietnam's Embassy in Australia says to allow 4 more working days after you fix it. → Fixing mistakes
